The Young Marines

Founded in 1959, by the Brass City detachment of the Marine Corps League in Waterbury, CT, the Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and girls, age eight through completion of high school.

They promote the mental, moral, and physical development of their members. The program focuses on character building, leadership, and promotng a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

The Young Marines program is the focal point for the U.S. Marine Corps' Youth Drug Demand Reduction efforts.

YOUNG MARINES RANKS
The official uniform in the Young Marines Program, for both youth and adults, is the woodland-pattern camouflage blouse, trousers, and cover with a khaki web belt and black boots. Youth wear their earned rank on the collars.

Marine Corps Service A, B, or C uniforms may be worn by Young Marines on special occasions such as parades, and USMC birthday balls. Collar devices for the Service A blouse are the Young Marines Disc Insignia lapel devices. Rank insignia is worn on the Khaki Shirt collars. The Young Marines Disc Insignia is used on the cover for the service A and C uniforms only.

YOUNG MARINES ADULT VOLUNTEERS
Young Marines units are community-based programs lead by dedicated adult volunteers. Many of these volunteers are former, retired, active duty, or reserve Marines who believe passionately that the values they learned as Marines had a positive affect on them. They volunteer their time and effort to pass these values on to the youth in their respective communities before other destructive influences take root.

The official uniform in the Young Marines Program, for both youth and adults, is the woodland-pattern camouflage blouse, trousers, and cover with a khaki web belt and black boots. Adults wear the Young Marines Disc Insignia on the collars in place of rank insignia.

Those who are serving or have served with the US Marine Corps may wear the distinctive disc insignia with silver eagle, globe, and anchor. Those who are Marine Corps League members may wear the sunburst insignia. Those who are former Young Marines youth members may wear the special 'swoosh' disc insignia.
