Honor... Courage... Commitment

United States Naval Academy
Bancroft Hall

The United States Naval Academy was founded in 1845 by the Secretary of the Navy, George
Bancroft,
in what is now historic Annapolis, Maryland. He was looking for a suitable
location for the new naval school,
in a "healthy and secluded" location in order to rescue
midshipmen from "the temptations and distractions
that necessarily connect with a large
and populous city."
