U.S 50-star flag United States Coast Guard
Auxiliary

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary was established by Congress in 1939, with the motto, Semper Paratus (Always Ready). The over arching mission of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is to contribute to the safety and security of citizens, ports, and waterways. They balance their missions of Recreational Boating Safety and Coast Guard Support with Maritime Homeland Security and other challenges that emerged as a result of a post-9/11 era.

Today's Auxiliary, with nearly 32,000 men and women, is a unique force that carries out an array of responsibilities touching almost every facet of the U.S. maritime environment. Their goals and strategies are to ensure the public has a safe, secure, and enjoyable recreational boating experience by implementing programs that minimize the loss of life, personal injury, and property damage while cooperating with environmental and national security efforts.

Members and Officers

Member

Officer insignia does not signify grade, but the office held. Coast Guard Auxiliary "officers" do not wear these office-holder designations while actively working with the U.S. Coast Guard. If involved in an operation aboard a U.S.C.G. vessel or working with U.S.C.G. personnel, Auxiliarists must remove their "officer" insignia and wear the base insignia of an Auxiliary Member.

Insignia with the red Auxiliarist "A" denote appointed office-holders.
Insignia with the blue/silver Auxiliarist "A" denote elected office-holders.
